WE KNOW. IT’S A LOT TO TAKE IN.
It’s not every day we decide to launch a new platform in a new frontier. And to be clear, this is very much a new world for us. Web3 digital technology has opened the door for creators and collectors like never before (shoutout to our friends and mentors at RTFKT for leading the charge and helping us understand what’s even possible). Like any new sport we’re all learning, it’s all about the ”athlete mindset”: practice, persistence, failure, and evolution. We hope you join us on this journey as we build our relationship with our community in a way where everyone can win.
Think of this blog as a place to come and see the “why” behind our work. It’s where you’ll find us still figuring things out. With that said, let’s break down what happened yesterday.
We launched a new platform, called .SWOOSH. It’s our own domain at welcome.swoosh.nike — our own special place on the internet where you can collect and help shape Nike virtual creations. Nike virtual creations are typically interactive digital objects (think virtual shoes or jerseys) that will be worn as wearables in video games or other immersive experiences (we’ll be announcing which ones soon).
On November 18th, .SWOOSH registration will open at welcome.swoosh.nike. Now since we’re in Beta, we’ll be bringing members onto the platform in low numbers at first. You’ll need an access code to create your .SWOOSH account. If you don’t get an access code, all good, just add your name to our waiting list and we’ll try to get you a code as soon as possible.
So who gets emailed access codes? We are prioritizing several communities who we currently partner with across our diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the US. And we’ll be serving those who engage with our platforms most across the US and select countries in Europe (we’ll include more countries across Europe and the rest of the world once we open the platform up to more regions). We seek to make this platform as fair as possible, so if you haven’t gotten your code yet, please be patient. We’ll get to you soon but you should NEVER buy a code from anyone pretending to sell access.
.SWOOSH aims to be the safest and most trusted platform for virtual creations celebrating sport and sport culture. Over the next three months, we’ll launch a host of initiatives to bring our vision to life. Here’s a sneak peek at our plans ahead:
VIRTUAL CREATIONS
We’ll launch our first collection sometime in the New Year. Our community will have a hand in shaping the assortment. From there, we’ll launch collections across all realms of sport and culture — some designed by us, some designed in partnership with some familiar faces, and some designed in partnership with YOU.
COMMUNITY CREATIONS
As we build our community, we’ll be opening up opportunities for a chance to co-create virtual products. We’ll start small, first asking you to help curate and shape some of our first collections. Then, we’ll start to host more community challenges. Those who win community challenges will be given the chance to co-create with us and earn a royalty for every virtual product they helped design.
LEARNING CENTER
As we host more IRL tutorials across our community, we’ll also host sessions on our site at welcome.swoosh.nike to teach everyone about this new digital world. And in select cities, we’ll host sessions on how to build 3D virtual creations of your own, teaching those how to thrive in this new frontier. We hope to level the playing field — because technology and creativity should be enjoyed by all. Whether you’re a creator or a collector, the world of .SWOOSH is for everyone.
